Healed by His Wounds
11/08/2025
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
— 1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
When Peter wrote these words, he was writing to believers who were suffering. Some unjustly, some enduring persecution, and all learning what it meant to live faithfully in a broken world. He reminds them that Jesus not only took their sins upon Himself but also bore the pain that came with them. His wounds became our healing.
Let that sink in for a minute. The very stripes that tore through His flesh are the same that knit our souls back together. It’s a divine paradox. Suffering leads to restoration, pain give birth to peace and death brings forth life.
I remember when I was playing ball inside my grandma’s house. I accidentally knocked over a cherished vase of hers. The sound of it shattering when it hit the floor froze me in my tracks. I knew I was guilty and braced myself for her anger. But instead of scolding me, she quietly came over, knelt down beside the mess, and began picking up the broken pieces. As she worked, one of the shards cut her finger, but she didn’t flinch or raise her voice. Her concern wasn’t for the vase, it was for me. She smiled gently and said, “Let’s clean this up together.” In that moment, I saw what grace looked like: love choosing restoration over reprimand. That’s what Jesus did. He absorbed our punishment and pain, not just to save us from sin’s consequence, but to free us to live righteously.
Healing here isn’t only about physical restoration, it’s wholeness. Emotional, spiritual, relational, even mental healing are all included in the word Peter chose. Because of Jesus, shame doesn’t get the final word. Guilt doesn’t define our story. Grace does.
Action Steps:
1. Reflect today on one area of your life where you need healing, ask Jesus to begin restoring it.
2. Forgive someone who has hurt you, as a reflection of the healing you’ve received.
3. Thank God out loud for the cross, not just for salvation, but for the ongoing healing it brings.
Today’s Challenge:
Live today as someone already healed. Don’t wait for the feeling, walk in the truth that His wounds have already done the work.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for bearing my sins on the cross. Thank You that through Your wounds, I find wholeness, forgiveness, and peace. Heal every part of me that is still broken. Help me to live as someone set free—walking in righteousness and grace. Amen.
