Blessed Without Seeing

07/03/2025

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
- John 20:29 (NIV)

In this brief but powerful statement, Jesus speaks directly to a core struggle of faith: believing without seeing. These words were spoken to Thomas, one of His twelve disciples. After the resurrection, Thomas had famously declared that unless he saw the nail marks in Jesus’ hands and touched His side, he would not believe. When Jesus appeared and invited Thomas to do just that, Thomas finally believed and proclaimed, “My Lord and my God!”

But Jesus’ response wasn’t just for Thomas, no, it was for every generation to come. “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” That includes you and me.

Faith often feels like walking in the dark with just enough light for the next step. We don’t get to touch Jesus’ scars or hear His voice audibly, but He calls us blessed when we trust Him anyway. And that word blessed is not a small compliment, it’s a declaration of divine favor, joy, and peace that surpasses circumstances.

Imagine a child trusting her parent to catch her when she jumps into the pool. She can’t prove with data that her parent will catch her. But because she knows their character, she jumps, laughing in midair. That’s belief without sight. And Jesus says that’s what brings blessing.

Our world often says, “Seeing is believing,” but the Kingdom of God flips that script: believing is seeing. As we trust, our spiritual eyes are opened. We begin to perceive God’s presence in everyday moments, in answered prayers, divine appointments, unexpected peace, and the quiet whisper of the Spirit.

Here are some things you can do to help you on your journey.

Reflect on a time when you had to trust God without all the answers. What did you learn from that?

Write down one area in your life where you’re struggling to believe without seeing. Pray over it specifically today.

Encourage someone else in their walk of faith. Remind them that Jesus calls them blessed even in their doubts.

My challenge for you is this:
Live like you are blessed, even if you can’t see the outcome yet. Let your belief today be louder than your doubt.

Jesus, thank You for being patient with my doubts, like You were with Thomas. Help me to trust You even when I can’t see how it’s all going to work out. Give me faith that holds firm in the unknown. Remind me today that I am blessed when I believe in You, even without physical proof. Help my unbelief, Lord, and strengthen my heart to walk by faith. Amen.
