Heirs with Christ

“So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
- Galatians 4:7 (NIV)

In this powerful declaration, Paul unveils one of the most profound truths of the gospel: We are no longer slaves, we are sons and daughters of God. And not just children, but heirs. Think about that for a moment. An heir is someone with a future, someone with access to legacy, promise, and provision. That’s you. That’s me. Not because of anything we’ve earned, but because of what Christ has done.

Imagine growing up in an orphanage, never knowing your parents, your identity, or if you’ll ever have a place to belong. Then one day, someone walks in, kneels down, and says, “I’ve come to take you home. You’re not just welcome, you’re mine. And everything I have is now yours.” That’s what God did through Jesus. He didn’t just rescue us, He adopted us.

Many of us still walk around with the mindset of a slave, striving, fearing, wondering if we’re enough. But the truth is, you are not a slave to your past, your failures, or your fears. You are a child of the King. And if you’re a child, you’re also an heir—not of temporary treasures, but of eternal ones: peace, joy, purpose, and the promise of a forever home.

This verse is an identity-shifter. It invites us to live from our inheritance, not for it. You don’t have to earn God’s love, it’s already yours. You don’t have to fear losing your place, your name is written in His family book.

Here are some things for you to help on your journey.

Write this verse somewhere you’ll see it often: “You are no longer a slave, but God’s child.”

When you pray today, address God as your Father and thank Him for adopting you.

Find one way to walk in the confidence of your inheritance, maybe by forgiving someone, stepping out in faith, or silencing the lies of the enemy with truth.

My challenge for you is this:
Refuse to live like a spiritual orphan. Embrace your identity as God’s beloved child and heir. Live today with the dignity and confidence of someone who belongs in the presence of the King.

Father God, thank You for making me Your child through Jesus. Thank You that I’m no longer a slave to fear, shame, or striving. Help me walk in the truth of my identity, not just knowing it in my head, but believing it in my heart. Let my life reflect the joy and peace of someone who belongs to You. I receive my inheritance not with pride, but with humility and gratitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
