Let the Little Children Come
11/18/2025
“When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’”
— Mark 10:14 (NIV)
There’s something about children that softens even the toughest heart. Their honesty. Their trust. Their way of seeing the world without filters, without walls, without the weight we adults tend to carry around. Jesus saw that, too and He wasn’t shy about correcting His disciples when they tried to keep those little ones at a distance.
When Mark writes that Jesus was indignant, it means He was deeply upset, not because the kids were noisy or distracting, but because the disciples had misjudged the heart of God. They thought Jesus needed protection. Jesus wanted the children. They thought the children weren’t important enough. Jesus declared they were exactly the kind of people who reveal what the kingdom looks like.
Think about the last time you watched a child trust without hesitation. Maybe it was a child running into the arms of someone they loved. Maybe it was the way they asked questions without worrying if they sounded silly. Maybe it was their joy in the simplest things, like bubbles, a sticky Popsicle, or finding a bright rock on the sidewalk. They live with an openness that adults often lose.
As we grow up, life shapes us. Pain teaches caution. Disappointment builds walls. Responsibility pulls our gaze downward. And before we know it, the bold, childlike trust Jesus celebrates gets replaced with skepticism, worry, or self-reliance.
Jesus calls us back, not to immaturity, but to simplicity. To trust Him like a child trusts a loving parent. To approach Him without pretense, without performance, without trying to earn what He freely gives.
Maybe today Jesus is whispering to your heart:
Come to Me. Just as you are. No barriers. No conditions. No pretending.
Action Steps:
• Slow down for five minutes and pray with childlike honesty. No fancy words—just truth.
• Identify one area where you’ve complicated faith. Ask Jesus to help you trust Him more simply.
• Do something today that reconnects you with childlike joy—laugh, rest, notice beauty, or be grateful for something small.
A Challenge for the Day:
Look for one moment where you can choose childlike trust over adult-sized worry. When it comes, say out loud: “Jesus, I trust You with this.”
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for welcoming me as I am. Help me lay down the weight I carry and approach You with the same trust and openness a child brings. Strip away the layers of fear, doubt, and pretense, and restore in me a heart that rests in Your goodness. Teach me to trust You simply and completely. Amen.
