Humbly Walking with God
6/6/2024
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
- Micah 6:8 NIV
The prophet Micah's message to the people of Israel remains profoundly relevant to us today. In a world where complexities and challenges abound, Micah 6:8 distills God's will for our lives into three clear, actionable directives: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
Let’s break down today’s three main points.
1. Act Justly:
Acting justly means more than adhering to laws; it means striving for righteousness in all aspects of life. It calls us to stand against injustice, to advocate for the oppressed, and to ensure fairness in our dealings. Justice reflects God's character, and as His followers, we are called to mirror this in our interactions and decisions.
So, ask yourself; How can you promote justice in your community today? Are there ways you can support those who are marginalized or treated unfairly?
2. Love Mercy:
Loving mercy goes beyond mere acts of kindness. It requires a heart that delights in compassion and forgiveness. Mercy is about showing grace even when it's undeserved, reflecting the boundless mercy that God extends to us. It's a reminder to forgive others as we have been forgiven and to offer kindness as a default response.
Again, ask yourself; In what areas of your life can you show more mercy? Are there relationships where you need to extend forgiveness or understanding?
3. Walk Humbly with Your God:
Walking humbly with God is an ongoing, intimate journey. It means acknowledging our dependence on Him, submitting to His guidance, and cultivating a heart of gratitude and reverence. Humility isn't about thinking less of ourselves, but about recognizing our rightful place before God and others. It's a posture that enables us to grow spiritually and relationally.
One more time, ask yourself; How can you cultivate humility in your walk with God today? Are there areas where pride may be hindering your relationship with Him or with others?
Today, take a moment to identify a specific action you can take in each of these three areas. Whether it’s standing up for someone who is being treated unfairly, offering forgiveness where it’s needed, or spending quiet time in prayer and reflection to deepen your humility before God, commit to making these principles a tangible part of your day.
Micah 6:8 calls us to live out our faith in practical ways. It's a reminder that our relationship with God isn't just about religious observance but about transforming our character and actions to align with His heart. As you go through your day, let these three pillars guide you towards a life that pleases God and impacts those around you positively.
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us what is good and for guiding us through Your Word. Help us to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You every day. Grant us the strength and wisdom to live out these principles in our lives, that we may reflect Your love and justice to the world around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
