My Soul Magnifies the Lord
12/21/2025
“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
— Luke 1:46–47 (NIV)
These words come from the lips of a young woman standing at the intersection of promise and uncertainty. Mary had just been told her life would never be the same. She would carry the Savior of the world, yet her circumstances were anything but safe or simple. Questions loomed. Risks were real. Her reputation, her future, even her relationships were on the line.
And yet, before the baby is born, before the miracle is fully seen, before the pain and confusion are resolved, Mary worships.
Notice what she says first: “My soul glorifies the Lord.” Worship doesn’t begin with her situation; it begins with her soul. This isn’t surface-level praise or polite religious language. This is deep, internal magnification. To magnify something is not to make it bigger than it is, but to make it clearer, more visible, more central. Mary is choosing to make God larger in her heart than her fear, her uncertainty, or her unanswered questions.
Then she adds, “My spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” Rejoicing flows from relationship. Mary doesn’t just see God as powerful, she knows Him as personal. Savior. Deliverer. Faithful One. Her joy is anchored not in what God will do, but in who God is.
This is a powerful reminder for us. There are moments when obedience places us in uncomfortable spaces. Seasons where God’s call stretches us beyond what feels reasonable or safe. In those moments, we can magnify the problem or we can magnify the Lord. One leads to anxiety. The other leads to joy.
Mary teaches us that worship is often an act of faith before it is a response to fulfillment. Praise doesn’t wait for clarity. Joy doesn’t require certainty. When God is magnified in our souls, perspective shifts. Fear shrinks. Hope grows. And even in the unknown, rejoicing becomes possible.
Today, let Mary’s song become your posture. Whatever you’re carrying, uncertainty, responsibility, expectation, or even fear, place it beneath the greatness of God. Let your soul magnify Him. Let your spirit rejoice in Him.
Action Steps
• Begin your day by speaking one truth about who God is before listing what you’re worried about.
• When fear rises, pause and ask, “What am I magnifying right now?”
• Put on worship music and let praise reset your perspective.
Today’s Challenge
Choose worship before resolution. Magnify the Lord even while you wait.
Prayer
Lord, today I choose to magnify You. When my mind is filled with questions and my heart feels stretched, help me lift my eyes to Your greatness. Teach my soul to glorify You and my spirit to rejoice in You as my Savior. Be bigger than my fear, louder than my doubt, and nearer than my uncertainty. I trust You. Amen.
