Always Near
12/04/2025
“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
— Psalm 145:18 (NIV)
There is a sacred nearness to God that doesn’t depend on our location, our mood, or even our strength, it depends on our call. Today’s verse assures us that the God who created galaxies bends close when His people speak His name. But there’s a beautiful qualifier: “to all who call on him in truth.”
Calling on God in truth is less about perfection and more about honesty. It means coming to Him without masks, without rehearsed lines, without pretending our faith is stronger than it is. Sometimes the truest prayer we can offer is, “Lord, I’m weary,” or, “Lord, I don’t understand,” or even, “Lord, help my unbelief.”
Have you ever been walking through a dense fog, unable to see more than a foot ahead? You don’t try to act brave; instead but you call out, trusting that Someone hears. And instantly, even if the fog doesn’t lift, you sense a presence beside you. Not one step changed, but yet, everything changed.
That is the promise of these words. God doesn’t wait for the fog to clear before He comes close. He comes close because we call. And His nearness isn’t measured by our feelings but by His faithfulness.
When you call out honestly, you don’t have to wonder if God has turned His ear. He already has. The nearness of God is not a reward for the spiritually elite, it is the inheritance of every child who calls on Him with an honest heart.
Action Steps
• Take a moment today to tell God one honest thing, something unpolished and real.
• Read Psalm 145 in full to remind your soul of who He is and why you can trust Him.
• Whisper His name when anxiety rises. His nearness isn’t earned; it’s promised.
Challenge for the Day
Pause three times today, morning, afternoon, and evening and simply pray, “Lord, I call on You in truth. Be near.” Then watch how your awareness of His presence grows.
Prayer
Father, thank You for being near, not just when I feel strong, but especially when I feel weak. Draw close as I call on You today. Teach me to come honestly, without pretense, trusting Your heart toward me. Let Your nearness steady my steps, calm my thoughts, and strengthen my spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
