My Fortress and My Deliverer
10/12/2025
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” — Psalm 18:2 (NIV)
David penned these words after being rescued from Saul and all his enemies. They pour out from a man who had seen the edge of fear, felt the weight of betrayal, and yet experienced God’s protection over and over again. Every phrase, “rock, fortress, deliverer, shield, stronghold,” they all paint a picture of safety, strength, and unwavering trust in God’s power to save.
Imagine a soldier pinned down by the enemy, arrows flying overhead. Suddenly, he spots a rock formation ahead and dives behind it. The arrows shatter against the stone, harmless. That’s what David saw in God; not just a rescuer who came after the danger, but a refuge in the middle of it.
We often look for strength in what we can control: our finances, our health, our relationships. But those things shift like sand in the wind. David learned that true strength isn’t found in what we build, it’s found in Who holds us steady. When everything else shakes, God remains the Rock.
Maybe right now, you’re facing something that feels like it’s closing in, pressure at work, family tension, health uncertainty. God invites you to take refuge, not in escape, but in His presence. He doesn’t just protect you from trouble; He holds you through it.
Action Steps:
1. Take a few minutes today to name your “enemies” the things causing you fear or anxiety, and surrender them to God in prayer.
2. Write down one way you’ve seen God protect or deliver you in the past. Let that memory strengthen your faith today.
3. When you feel overwhelmed, whisper David’s words: “The Lord is my rock.”
Challenge for Today:
When fear rises, stop and say out loud, “God, You are my fortress and my deliverer.” Then rest in the truth that you are already secure in Him.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for being my rock when everything else feels unstable. You are my refuge, my fortress, and my deliverer. Help me to remember that no storm is greater than Your strength. I place my trust in You today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
