Be Ready at All Times

08/10/2025

“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
— Luke 12:40 (NIV)

Jesus’ words in today’s verse are both a warning and a call to live with a sense of holy urgency. Life has a way of making us feel like tomorrow is promised. We plan vacations, career moves, and even retirement accounts assuming we’ll be here to enjoy them. But Jesus reminds us that His return will be sudden, like a surprise visit from a dear friend we haven’t seen in years.

Imagine your home when unexpected guests arrive. If your house is in order, you welcome them with joy. But if things are messy and unprepared, you scramble to make it look presentable. The condition of our spiritual lives works the same way. If we are daily walking with Jesus, living in obedience, showing love, forgiving quickly, we will be ready for His coming, whether it’s tomorrow or in decades.

This readiness isn’t about fear, it’s about faithfulness. A heart that stays close to Jesus doesn’t dread His return; it longs for it. Like a bride eagerly awaiting her groom, our daily choices should reflect anticipation, not apathy. Every act of kindness, every prayer whispered, every temptation resisted is a way of “keeping the lamps burning” for the day we see Him face to face.

Action Steps to help you on your journey:

Spend 10 minutes today in prayer asking God to reveal areas where you’ve grown spiritually “unready.”

Reach out to someone you’ve been meaning to forgive or encourage, don’t delay.

Live today as if it were the day you would meet Jesus in person.

Challenge for Today:
Do one intentional act of obedience today that you’ve been putting off, remembering that readiness is not just about waiting, it’s about living faithfully now.

Lord Jesus, help me to live each day in the light of Your return. Remove distractions that pull my heart away from You. Give me the courage to obey quickly, the wisdom to walk closely with You, and the joy of knowing I will see You face to face one day. Keep my heart ready, my faith strong, and my love sincere. Amen.
