Grace for Today

07/05/2025

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

In the world we live in, worry has become a common companion. We worry about deadlines, health, relationships, finances, and a future we can’t see. Jesus, in this passage from the Sermon on the Mount, gently but firmly tells us to stop. Not because the future is insignificant, but because God is sovereign and we are not built to carry the weight of tomorrow.

Jesus’ words remind us of something profoundly freeing: we are not called to stockpile anxiety. He doesn’t tell us that trouble won’t come; in fact, He plainly says, “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” But the invitation here is to trust God with today, knowing He’s already in tomorrow.

Corrie ten Boom, a survivor of the Holocaust, once said, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.” She knew the cost of fear and uncertainty yet chose daily trust over daily panic. That is the essence of today’s verse from Matthew.

Picture the Israelites in the wilderness. God provided manna, but only enough for each day. If they tried to gather more for the next day, it spoiled. Why? Because God wanted them to depend on Him daily. We are no different. Worrying about things outside our control, things that haven’t even happened yet, robs us of peace and blinds us to God’s provision right here, right now.

Jesus isn’t encouraging irresponsibility. Planning is wise. But worrying about what may never come? That’s where the enemy thrives. The enemy wants you paralyzed by “what ifs,” while God wants you empowered by “even if.”

Here are some things you can do to help you on your journey.

Write down one worry about tomorrow and surrender it to God in prayer.

Choose a truth from Scripture that reminds you of God’s faithfulness.

Practice gratitude today. Make a list of five things God has already done for you.

Encourage someone else who is feeling anxious by reminding them of God’s presence and provision.

My challenge for you is this:
Live fully in today. When your thoughts start drifting toward next week’s problems, pause and say, “God, I trust You with tomorrow. Help me walk with You today.”

Father, You see what lies ahead, and I trust You with what I cannot control. Thank You for the grace that is sufficient for today’s needs. Help me to be present, to walk in peace, and to surrender my fears. Teach me to live one day at a time, anchored in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
