Give Thanks Always

10/02/2025

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
– 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV)

When David brought the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem, the air was filled with music, dancing, and celebration. Israel had waited generations for this moment, and David’s psalm of thanks rang out, calling the people to remember one unshakable truth: God is good, and His love never fails. This wasn’t just a one-time statement; it became Israel’s anthem through battles, famines, and even exile.

Think about that, God’s people didn’t only sing these words when life was easy. They sang them in the valley, too. When the walls of Jerusalem crumbled and they were carried off into captivity, they still declared, “His love endures forever.” Thanksgiving wasn’t just about what God had done; it was about who God is.

Gratitude, then, is an act of faith. Anyone can give thanks when the bank account is full, the body is healthy, and relationships are thriving. But to give thanks in uncertainty, that’s faith at work. That’s trusting that God’s goodness runs deeper than the pain you’re facing.

Imagine a family gathered around a dinner table. The food is simple, perhaps only bread and soup, but laughter and prayer fill the room. Contrast that with a feast where the plates are overflowing but bitterness and strife choke out joy. Which table do you think better reflects the goodness of God? It’s not the abundance of things that proves His love, it’s His presence with us, even when resources are thin.

God’s love endures through every season. When others walk away, His love remains. When guilt whispers that we’ve gone too far, His mercy still reaches us. When storms try to drown out hope, His steadfast love becomes the anchor that holds.

So today, whether you are standing on the mountaintop or trudging through a valley, you can join David’s song. Gratitude changes our perspective, opens our eyes to daily blessings, and reminds us that we serve a God who never fails.

Action Steps:

Start a gratitude journal this week. Write at least one sentence each day beginning with: “Lord, today I thank You for…”

Instead of scrolling on your phone first thing in the morning, begin your day with a prayer of thanks.

Share one story of God’s goodness with a friend or family member today. Your testimony might reignite their faith.

Today’s Challenge:
Replace every “Why me?” thought with “Thank You, Lord.” Watch how it shifts your heart.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your unchanging goodness and Your love that never ends. Help me to give thanks in every season, not only when blessings are obvious but also when life feels heavy. Open my eyes to the countless ways You are at work in my life. Teach me to make gratitude my song, just as David and Your people did. I trust in Your enduring love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
