Ask, Seek, Knock

10/04/2025

“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
- Matthew 7:8 (NIV)

This simple yet profound verse from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount carries a promise that has comforted believers for centuries. It’s a reminder that our God is not distant or indifferent, He is attentive, available, and responsive to His children. Jesus isn’t painting a picture of a reluctant Father who needs convincing; He’s revealing a loving Father who delights in being approached.

Think about a child who runs to their parent with excitement, asking questions, seeking help, or knocking on the door simply to be near them. That’s the kind of intimacy and persistence Jesus calls us to in prayer. To ask is to make our requests known to God. To seek is to actively pursue His presence and His will. And to knock is to persist even when we feel like heaven’s door is closed.

There’s a story about George Müller, a man of great faith who ran orphanages in the 1800s. He made it his rule never to ask people for money, he only asked God. Time and again, when food or funds ran out, he would pray. And time and again, at just the right moment, provision came. Sometimes in the form of a baker knocking on the door in the early morning with fresh bread, other times a milk cart breaking down right outside the orphanage gates. Müller understood what Jesus meant: those who keep asking, seeking, and knocking will see God’s faithfulness unfold.

Action Steps:

Ask boldly: Bring your needs, fears, and hopes to God without hesitation.

Seek persistently: Open your Bible and pursue God’s heart, not just His hand.

Knock faithfully: When answers seem delayed, keep praying. Trust His timing more than your own.

Record God’s responses: Keep a journal of answered prayers to remind yourself that God hears and provides.

Challenge for the Day:
Don’t give up after one prayer. Whatever door you’re standing before, keep knocking. The promise of Matthew 7:8 is for you: God will open what needs to be opened, in His time and His way.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that You hear me when I pray. Help me to be bold in asking, diligent in seeking, and patient in knocking. Strengthen my faith when the answers don’t come right away, and let my persistence draw me closer to You. Open the doors that align with Your will, and close those that don’t. In Jesus’ name, amen.
