Remembering God’s Faithfulness

06/21/2025

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
— Psalms 77:11–12 (NIV)

There are moments in life when our hearts feel heavy, our prayers seem unanswered, and our faith feels fragile. Today’s verse is one of those raw, transparent cries from a weary soul. The psalmist, likely Asaph, is in a season of deep trouble. He questions, grieves, and wrestles with God’s silence. But something changes in verse 11. Amid the turmoil, he makes a deliberate choice: to remember.

“I will remember…” That’s a powerful declaration. Not “I feel,” not “I see,” but “I will.” It’s a choice of the will to look back at God’s faithfulness when the present feels uncertain. He remembers the miracles, the mighty deeds, the moments when God’s hand moved undeniably.

When we feel stuck in the “why” and “where are You” moments, one of the most powerful things we can do is practice spiritual remembrance. It’s like flipping through a scrapbook of God’s goodness. Think of the Red Sea parting, manna falling from heaven, the walls of Jericho tumbling, the cross, the resurrection, all mighty deeds that declare: our God is faithful.

And it’s not just the biblical miracles. What about your own story? That time you had no idea how the bill would get paid and somehow it was. The peace that came in the middle of the storm. The healing, the provision, the second chance, the word of encouragement at just the right moment.

I remember hearing a story about a grandmother who kept a journal of answered prayers. It wasn’t fancy, just dates and notes about what she had prayed and how God responded. When she passed, her family found it tucked in her Bible, pages worn thin from flipping back and forth. That journal became a modern-day Psalm 77. A record of God’s mighty deeds in a single faithful life.

What might shift in your current situation if you paused and remembered God’s faithfulness? Not just with a glance, but with a meditation, a deep, thoughtful reflection on His character, His past works, and His promises?

Here are some things you can do today to help you on your journey.

Take ten minutes today and write down five ways God has been faithful in your life.

Share one of those memories with someone else, your spouse, child, friend, or coworker.

Start your own “faithfulness journal,” a record of answered prayers and moments of God’s goodness.

My challenge for you is this:
When fear or doubt creeps in today, respond with remembrance. Speak out loud something God has done for you in the past and let it build your faith in the present.

Lord, when my heart is weary and my vision is clouded, help me to remember. Remind me of Your faithfulness in the past so I can trust You for the future. Give me the discipline to meditate on Your works and the courage to testify to Your goodness. You have never failed me, and I know You won’t start now. Amen.
