The Word That Stands Forever

09/15/2025

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
— Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)

Seasons change, don’t they? Grass that was green and lush in spring eventually browns in the heat of summer or fades in the chill of winter. Flowers that burst forth in color and fragrance soon wilt and fall. This is the cycle of life we all know too well. Even the most beautiful and vibrant things in this world are temporary.

Isaiah uses this vivid imagery to remind us of the fleeting nature of human life, achievements, and even our troubles. Everything in this world is subject to change, decay, and time. But there is one thing that does not change, God’s Word. His promises are not seasonal. His truth does not fade with culture or history. What He spoke thousands of years ago is still true today and will be true tomorrow.

Think of it this way: nations rise and fall, technology advances and becomes obsolete, trends come and go, but the Word of God is the anchor that never moves. In a world where so much feels uncertain, His Word gives us certainty. When life feels like shifting sand, His Word is the solid rock under our feet.

For example, when you feel anxious, you can stand on Philippians 4:6–7 and know that His peace will guard your heart. When you feel alone, you can hold onto Hebrews 13:5—“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” These promises endure, no matter what.

Action steps to help on your journey:

Take time today to read a passage of Scripture slowly and let it soak in.

Write down one promise from God’s Word and keep it with you throughout the day.

Share a verse that has carried you through a hard time with someone who may need encouragement.

Today’s Challenge:
When you encounter something today that feels temporary or unstable, remind yourself: “But the word of our God endures forever.”

Prayer:
Father, thank You that while everything in this world is passing away, Your Word endures forever. Help me to anchor my heart in Your promises and not in the fleeting things of this life. May I trust in what You have spoken, and may Your Word be my guide and my strength today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
