No More Tears

“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
- Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

Imagine standing at the end of a long, hard journey, bruised, weary, and worn. The road has been uphill, the nights dark, and the pain real. And then suddenly, you hear these words: “There will be no more death, or mourning, or crying, or pain.” Can you feel the weight lift?

This verse is one of the most comforting promises in all of Scripture. John, exiled on the island of Patmos, was given a vision of the new heaven and new earth, God’s perfect restoration. In this vision, God is not distant or cold. He is tender. He wipes away every tear. What a powerful image of personal, loving care.

We’ve all known sorrow. Some have wept at gravesides. Others have suffered broken relationships, chronic pain, or daily battles with anxiety. The world is full of mourning. But Revelation 21:4 reminds us that this is not the end of the story. The “old order of things,” the fallen, hurting world, is temporary. God is making everything new.

In my pastoral journey, I’ve sat with families whose loss was unspeakable, and yet, even through tears, they clung to this verse like a lifeline. Why? Because when all seems lost, this promise anchors us in hope. We believe in a God who is not only preparing a place for us but also preparing us for that place, a world without death, without pain, without tears.

Until then, we live with this hope in our hearts and share it with those who need it most.

Here are some things you can do to help you on your journey.

Reflect on a past hurt or sorrow, and speak this verse over it as a declaration of God’s coming restoration.

Reach out to someone who is grieving or in pain and offer the hope of Revelation 21:4 with love and compassion.

Write this verse somewhere you’ll see it often, a daily reminder that pain will not have the final word.

My challenge for you is this:
Choose to live today with heaven in view. Let your words and actions reflect the hope of God’s promised restoration. Be someone’s reminder that better days are coming.

Father, thank You for the hope of Revelation 21:4. In a world filled with pain and sorrow, remind us that You are making all things new. Help us to comfort others with the comfort You’ve given us, and to live with our eyes fixed on the eternal joy You have promised. Come quickly, Lord. Wipe away every tear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
