The Presence We Can’t Live Without
09/05/2025
“Then Moses said to him, ‘If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.’”
— Exodus 33:15 (NIV)
There are moments in life when we are tempted to push forward on our own strength, relying on our plans, skills, or resources. Moses understood the danger of that. He knew the Promised Land meant nothing without the presence of God. Milk and honey would be sweet, victories would be celebrated, but if God was not in their midst, it would all be hollow.
Think of a beautifully set table with no food on it. It looks impressive, but it does not satisfy. That’s what life is like without God’s presence. Moses recognized that their true identity and blessing came not from geography, prosperity, or success, but from being a people marked by the presence of the living God.
We face the same choice. We can run after accomplishments, accumulate wealth, or chase recognition, but without God’s presence guiding and filling us, none of it brings lasting joy. God’s presence is not just an added benefit; it is the very thing that sets us apart. It brings peace in the storm, direction in the unknown, and comfort in the valley.
When my wife and I were first married, we made decisions the best way we knew how, but the more we invited God into the process, the more we discovered His presence brought clarity, even when choices were hard. It wasn’t the absence of problems, but the assurance that He was with us that gave us courage.
Action steps to help on your journey:
Begin your day by asking, “Lord, go with me today. Lead my steps.”
Pause during moments of stress to invite His presence rather than leaning only on your understanding.
Reflect on areas where you may have been moving ahead without Him, and ask Him to realign your path.
Today’s Challenge:
Before you make a key decision today, big or small, pause and pray Moses’ words: “If Your Presence does not go with me, I don’t want to go.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I don’t want to live a single moment apart from You. Teach me to seek Your presence above all else. Lead me in Your wisdom and give me the courage to stop running ahead of You. May my life reflect the peace and power that comes from walking daily with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
