Strength for the Seeking Heart

“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” —1 Chronicles 16:11 (NIV)

Life has a way of draining our strength. The pressures of family, the weight of responsibility, the never-ending to-do lists—all can wear us down. But what if the strength we truly need doesn’t come from within us? What if it’s found in Someone far greater?

David’s song in 1 Chronicles 16 is a call to worship, a declaration of trust, and a reminder to turn our eyes upward. In verse 11, he offers a simple but powerful invitation: “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” Not sometimes. Not when it’s convenient. But always.

Imagine a child lost in a crowd. Panic sets in as they search for their parent’s face. But the moment they see it, that familiar, loving, safe face, everything changes. That’s the picture David gives us. God is not hiding. He’s not reluctant to help. He longs for us to look up, to lock eyes with Him in trust and dependence.

God’s strength is not a vague concept. It’s the power that parted seas, silenced lions, and raised Jesus from the dead. And this same strength is made available to us, when we seek His face.

Seeking His face isn’t about looking for His hand to do something for us. It’s about desiring Him more than what He can give. It’s about relationship. Presence. Intimacy. When we seek God’s face, we’re choosing worship over worry, connection over control, and dependence over self-reliance.

When we do that, something remarkable happens: we’re strengthened, not just emotionally, but spiritually. God’s presence becomes our power.

Here are some things you can do today to help you on your journey.

Pause and Pray: Start your day with a simple prayer: “Lord, I look to You today for strength. Help me seek Your face.”

Set a Reminder: Choose a time in your day, morning, midday, or evening, to refocus your heart and seek His presence intentionally.

Write it Down: Journal a time when God’s strength carried you. Let it remind you that He is faithful and near.

My challenge for you is this.
Before reaching for your phone, your to-do list, or even your coffee, reach for Him. Just for a moment, turn your heart toward God and say, “I’m seeking Your face, Lord. Be my strength today.”

Father, I confess that I often try to do life on my own strength. But today, I turn my eyes to You. I seek not just Your help, but Your presence. Fill me with Your strength and draw me close to Your heart. In every moment, remind me to look to You and trust that You are near. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
