Breath of Life

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.”
— Ezekiel 37:5 (NIV)
The prophet Ezekiel was given a vision of a valley filled with dry bones, lifeless, scattered, and hopeless. To human eyes, it was a scene of absolute despair. Yet God looked at those bones and saw potential, not finality. He declared that His breath would enter them, and they would live again.
This passage is more than just a story about Israel’s restoration; it’s a picture of what God can do in our lives when everything feels dead and dry. Maybe you’ve had seasons when your faith felt lifeless, your marriage seemed beyond repair, or your dreams lay buried under disappointment. But the same God who breathed life into dry bones is the One who can breathe fresh hope, purpose, and vitality into you today.
Think of the way a paramedic rushes to revive someone who has stopped breathing. In that moment, oxygen isn’t a luxury, it’s life itself. Spiritually, we need the breath of God in the same way. Without His Spirit, we remain like dry bones, present, but powerless. But with His breath, we come alive with new strength, courage, and purpose.
Action steps to help on your journey:
Take five minutes today to simply sit still and ask the Holy Spirit to breathe fresh life into your soul.
Write down an area of your life that feels “dry” and pray Ezekiel 37:5 over it.
Encourage someone else today by reminding them that no situation is too far gone for God’s breath of life.
Today’s Challenge:
Speak life over your situation. Instead of repeating words of defeat, declare God’s promises of renewal and restoration.
Prayer:
Sovereign Lord, I thank You that You bring life where there is death and hope where there is despair. Breathe into me today, Lord, in the areas that feel dry and broken. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may live fully alive in Christ. Restore what seems lost and let Your life flow through me to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
