Love as He Loved

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
- John 15:12 (NIV)
Jesus’ words here are simple, yet they carry the weight of Heaven’s greatest command. Notice He doesn’t say “I suggest” or “I’d like you to try,” He says, “My command.” It’s not optional. It’s foundational. Love isn’t just what followers of Jesus do; it’s who we are called to be.
When Jesus spoke these words, He was just hours away from the cross. He knew what love would cost Him. He knew betrayal was coming, denial was near, and suffering was unavoidable. Yet in the shadow of His own agony, His heart was fixed on love. He didn’t command us to love only the lovable or those who treat us kindly. He said, “Love each other as I have loved you.” That’s a sacrificial, self-giving, grace-filled love, a love that forgives, that serves, that endures.
Think about how Jesus loved His disciples. He washed their feet, even Judas’s. He bore their weaknesses with patience. He restored Peter after failure. He wept with them, taught them, and ultimately gave His life for them. That’s the model He calls us to follow.
Imagine if every believer lived that way today, if we loved our coworkers even when they frustrate us, our family even when they disappoint us, and our community even when it’s inconvenient. The world would see a reflection of Jesus, not because we preach louder, but because we love deeper.
Action Steps:
1. Show kindness to someone who’s difficult to love today.
2. Write a note or send a message to encourage someone who may feel forgotten.
3. Pray and ask God to help you love with His kind of love, love without limits.
Challenge for Today:
Before the day ends, look for one way to love like Jesus loved you. Don’t wait for the right moment, create it.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving me with a perfect and unconditional love. Help me to see others through Your eyes and love them as You have loved me. Teach me to forgive quickly, serve joyfully, and love selflessly. Let my life reflect the love of Jesus in all I do. In His name, Amen.
