Commit It to the Lord

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
– Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

When we start something new, a project, a business venture, a ministry, or even a relationship, our natural instinct is often to plan, strategize, and execute in our own strength. We like control, and we like to feel secure knowing we’ve mapped out the steps. But, Scripture reminds us that true security and success are not found in our own abilities, but in our willingness to commit everything to the Lord.

The Hebrew word for commit here literally means “to roll.” Imagine rolling a heavy burden off your shoulders and placing it into God’s hands. That’s the picture Solomon paints for us: take the weight of your plans, dreams, and desires, and roll them onto the Lord.

When a farmer plants seed, he commits the outcome to God. He can water and tend the soil, but only God can send rain and cause growth. In the same way, we can prepare, plan, and work hard, but it is God who brings fruit from our labor.

I remember something I did when I first started in business. There were times that I used to stress over every decision, every financial choice, every potential failure. But when I began starting my day by surrendering my business to God in prayer, I found peace. I still plan, I still work, but the results are in His hands, not mine. That’s the heart of Proverbs 16:3.

When we commit our work to Him, God does more than bless our plans, He shapes them. He aligns our hearts with His will, and in that alignment, our paths become steady and established.

Action steps to help on your journey:

Begin each day with prayer, specifically surrendering your work, tasks, and decisions to the Lord.

Write down your plans, and then ask, “Lord, which of these are Yours?” Be willing to adjust.

Replace worry with worship, when anxious about outcomes, remind yourself, “God is in charge of this plan.”

Today’s Challenge:
Before you take your first major step today, stop and roll it onto God. Whisper a simple prayer: “Lord, this belongs to You. Guide me in it.”

Prayer:
Father, thank You for reminding me that my plans are safest in Your hands. Teach me to surrender every task, every goal, and every dream to You. Align my steps with Your will, and give me peace in knowing that You will establish what You desire through me. I trust You with both the process and the outcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
