Don’t Give Up Now

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
- Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

In a world driven by instant results and overnight success, this verse is a countercultural call to perseverance. It’s a reminder that the Kingdom of God operates on a different timetable, and a different reward system.

This way of thinking is much like a farmer. He tills the soil, sows the seed, waters it, and waits. Day after day, he works the land without seeing results. Yet he doesn’t quit, because he trusts the process. He knows harvest doesn’t come the day after planting. It comes after a season of faithful care.

That’s how life in Christ often works. You’ve been praying for a breakthrough in your marriage, but it feels like nothing’s changing. You’ve been showing love to that co-worker, but they remain distant. You serve faithfully at church, but it seems no one notices. You’ve poured into your kids, but you worry they aren’t listening.

Paul encourages us: Don’t grow weary. Don’t give up. Keep going. Why? Because “at the proper time,” God’s time, not yours, you will reap a harvest. His promise is sure. But the harvest only comes if you don’t give up.

This is an old story about a schoolteacher who spent 30 years teaching in a rough neighborhood. She often wondered if anything she did made a difference. Years later, she received a letter from a former student who had become a doctor. He wrote, “You believed in me when no one else did. You saw what I could become. I’ve never forgotten your kindness.”

She had no idea she’d planted a seed that would grow into such fruit. But she didn’t stop doing good, and the harvest came.

Here are some things to help you on your journey.

Revisit something you’ve been tempted to give up on and recommit it to God.

Encourage someone else who may be weary in doing good.

Reflect on past moments when faithfulness paid off, not instantly, but eventually.

My challenge for you is this:
Push past the weariness. Keep doing what’s right, even when it’s hard. Even when no one sees. God sees, and His timing is perfect.

Lord, You know the moments I want to give up. When my strength is gone and the results seem invisible, remind me that You are at work. Help me keep sowing seeds of goodness, trusting that in Your time, the harvest will come. Strengthen my hands, refresh my spirit, and renew my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
