Sent with a Mission

07/15/2025

“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’”
- John 20:21 (NIV)

The room was thick with fear. Doors were locked. Whispers of what the religious leaders might do next ran wild. The disciples, who were once bold and brave, were now sitting in confusion and deep sorrow. But then, Jesus appears. Not as a ghost, not as a memory, but risen, real, and full of authority. His first words? “Peace be with you.” And His next? “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

This moment in isn’t just a comforting reunion. It’s a commissioning.

Jesus didn’t just come back to reassure His followers; He came to reassign them. The same God who sent Jesus from heaven to earth now sends us, into our homes, workplaces, communities, and even into brokenness so that we can carry the light of His love, truth, and grace.

Think about it: Jesus was sent to bring healing, hope, and redemption. He was sent to serve, to save, and to speak truth in love. And now He turns to us with nail-scarred hands and says, “It’s your turn.” We don’t go in fear. We go in peace. We don’t go alone. We go with the presence of the risen Christ.

A pastor friend once said, “We are not saved to sit, we are saved to be sent.” That’s the heart of today’s verse. Your job, your neighborhood, your story, they are not accidents. They are assignments.

Even the ordinary parts of life, picking up groceries, grabbing coffee, sending an email, can be sacred when done with the mindset of someone who’s been sent.

Here are some things you can do to help on your journey.

Reflect on one place in your life where you feel God might be sending you right now.

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you peace and courage as you step into that space.

Look for one opportunity today to bring hope, healing, or truth to someone near you.

My challenge for you is this:
Start your day with this declaration: “Lord, I receive Your peace, and I go as one sent by You.” Then look for one moment where you can be the presence of Jesus to someone else.

Jesus, thank You for Your peace that calms my fears and Your purpose that gives my life meaning. Help me to live today with a deep awareness that I have been sent by You. Give me eyes to see where You’re leading and the courage to follow. May I speak love, serve others, and reflect Your grace in everything I do. In Your name, Amen.
