Joy Comes in the Morning

06/12/2025

“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
—Psalm 30:5 (NIV)

David wrote these words not just as poetry, but as testimony. This passage is his dedication song for the temple, a reflection on a life of highs and lows, failures and forgiveness, despair and deliverance. And in this single verse, David captures one of the greatest truths about God’s heart: sorrow has an expiration date, but His favor does not.

We’ve all had nights like David. Nights of regret. Of grief. Of silence so loud it echoes in our souls. Maybe you’re in one now. The kind of night where prayers feel unanswered and emotions feel overwhelming. David reminds us: that night won’t last forever.

I remember a mentor telling me about the darkest season of his life, the loss of his job, compounded by a health scare and the death of a close friend, all in the same year. He said it felt like God was silent. But he held onto Psalm 30:5. And little by little, morning came. A new opportunity arose. Healing progressed. Grief gave way to gratitude. It didn’t happen instantly. But it did happen. Because God is faithful.

God may allow weeping to visit for a night, but He never lets it move in. His favor, His grace, His mercy, His love, they all outlast our pain. The sunrise always comes. Always.

Here are some things you can do to help you on your journey.

Reflect – Write down a time when you thought the night would never end, but God brought you through it. Remember His faithfulness.

Encourage – Send this verse to someone you know who’s walking through a dark season. Be the voice of hope they need.

Pray – Take a few minutes tonight and give your “nighttime” to God, whatever is causing your tears or fears.

My challenge for you is this:
Speak these words over your life every time you feel the need: “This might be my night, but morning is coming.” Let your spirit hold fast to the promise that sorrow is never permanent in God’s story.

Father, thank You that my pain is not the final word. Thank You that Your favor outlasts my failure, and Your joy rises with the dawn. Give me strength to endure the night and faith to believe that morning is on the way. Help me to comfort others with the same comfort You’ve given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
