The Mighty One Has Done Great Things

08/15/2025

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.” – Luke 1:49 (NIV)

Mary’s song in Luke 1 is one of the most beautiful expressions of praise in all of Scripture. These words are her response to the angel’s message that she, a humble young woman from Nazareth, would be the mother of the Messiah. What strikes me is how quickly her focus shifts from her circumstances to the greatness of God. She doesn’t dwell on the potential fear, the gossip of neighbors, or the uncertainty ahead. Instead, she magnifies the Lord for who He is and for the marvelous things He has done in her life.

Her words remind us that gratitude is not just about thanking God for blessings, it’s about recognizing His power and holiness in the middle of the unknown. When we pause to reflect, we can see the fingerprints of the Mighty One in our own lives: prayers answered in ways we never imagined, doors opened that no one could shut, strength given when we were at our weakest.

When has God showed up for you in a way you couldn’t explain? Maybe a timely word from a friend, provision when the bank account was low, or peace when the storm raged around you. Those are the “great things” we are called to remember and proclaim. And just like Mary, we can declare, “Holy is His name,” because His character is flawless, His power unmatched, and His love unchanging.

Action Steps to help on your journey:

Take five minutes today to write down at least three “great things” God has done for you this year.

Share one of them with someone as a testimony of His goodness.

Begin your prayers today by magnifying God for who He is before asking for anything.

Today’s Challenge:
Don’t let today pass without voicing your praise. Say out loud to someone, or even in your own home, “The Mighty One has done great things for me!” Let your declaration encourage your own heart and strengthen the faith of those who hear it.

Prayer:
Father, I thank You for the great things You have done in my life. Even in seasons of uncertainty, You remain holy, faithful, and good. Open my eyes to see Your hand at work today, and give me a heart that overflows with praise. May my life be a testimony of Your power and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
